The delegation of Environmental BlogBus visits Al-Fukhari Sanitary Landfill and transfer stations

On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the JSC-KRM welcomed visitors from the Environmental BlogBus, which is an activity of a Palestinian Youth Network for Environmental Change (PYNEC), the Environmental BlogBus includes a group of activists and those interested in the field of the environment, Its objective is to monitor and document environmental projects and issues in Palestine, in order to pressure decision makers to improve and support important environmental projects.

The tour included visits to new facilities used for the collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste in the southern Gaza Strip, The BlogBus visited the Rafah transfer station which located in Tal Al-Sultan area south of Rafah city. The engineer supervising the project gave a detailed explanation of the components of the Rafah transfer station and its operational plan.

Then the BlogBus went to visit a Al-Fukhari Sanitary Landfill in the southeast of Khan Yunis Governorate, Then Eng. Tamer Abu Zomar, head of the landfill section gave a detailed explanation for the basic conditions necessary for the establishment of the Al-Fukhari sanitary landfill and the procedures for closing the old landfill. Then JSC-KRM team introduced a comprehensive definition of the solid waste management project in the Gaza Strip which implemented by MDLF for the JSC-KRM, funded by the World Bank Group, the European Union and the French Development Agency,Then the team highlighted the outputs and outcomes of the project and lessons learned and experiences gained from the project.

The tour concluded with a visit to the Medical Waste Treatment Unit located at Khan Yunis Transfer Station. Then visitors were introduced to the current procedures for transporting and treating hazardous and sharp medical waste which were collected after separation in health centers, which were targeted through the Medical Waste Management Project Funded by the Japanese JICA Foundation.

And at the end of the tour, The bloggers thanked all those involved in the establishment, development and operation of the solid waste management facilities, And its positive impact on the environment and citizens in the Gaza Strip.
