Students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Islamic University visit Al-Fukhari landfill and Rafah transfer station

On Thursday, 24/10/2019, A delegation of students from the Civil Engineering Department at the Islamic University of Gaza under the supervision of a group of lecturers in the college visited the solid waste management facilities in the southern Gaza Strip, which is under the management of the Council.

The visit comes in order to increase the students' knowledge on the engineering and environmental planning of such facilities, the tour started with Al-Fukhari sanitary landfill then Rafah transfer station.

The visitors were welcomed by Eng. Samir Matar Environmental Specialist, Eng. Tamer Abu Zomar, head of the landfill section and Eng. Enas Qandeel, Public Information and Outreach Officer, and they gave a detailed explanation to the students about the construction mechanism and the closure procedures of the old Al-Fukhari landfill, then they were discussing about engineering, environmental and social standards in the establishment and operation of landfill and transfer station.

These facilities were built as part of the components of the Solid Waste Management Project in the Gaza Strip, which implemented by MDLF for the JSC-KRM, funded by the World Bank Group, the European Union and the French Development Agency, In order to improve the solid waste sector in the Gaza Strip through the use of highly efficient methods and improved infrastructure, taking into consideration all environmental and social procedures and standards.
