A study day in cooperation with the Civil Engineering Department at the Islamic University of Gaza
The Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management in the Governorates of Khan Younis, Rafah and Middle Area participated in the scientific day about "Solid Waste Management", in cooperation with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Islamic University, and the Japanese JICA Foundation, which was implemented through the Municipal Development & Lending Fund.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Aladdin Al Batah Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC-KRM, Dr. Wissam Ashour Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ali Barhoum, Executive Director of the JSC-KRM, Eng. Noureddine El-Madhoun, Director of the Solid Waste Management Project Unit at the MDLF and Eng. Bassam Tayeh the head of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at the University. In addition to a number of faculty members and students in the Faculty of Engineering, and number of relevant people from relevant ministries, municipalities and civil society institutions.
This meeting aims to increase the cognitive skills of university students and academics, who are interested in solid waste management. In addition to present and focus on practical experiences of infrastructure development and improvement of the methods used in the collection and disposal of solid waste operations in the Gaza Strip.
The first session was chaired by Dr. Hossam Al-Najjar, and Dr. Mohammed Abu Haiba who gives a brief presentation about "The experience of the private sector in the utilization of solid waste", and Aknan company experience has been presented as an example, Then Eng. Samir Matar gave a presentation on the components of the solid waste management project in the Gaza Strip. Also Eng. Noureddine El-Madhoun gave a detailed explanation of how to build the landfill according to sound engineering standards, Finally, at the end of the first session, Dr. Ahmed Abu Foul gave a presentation about "The primary collection study in the Gaza Strip".
The second session was chaired by Dr. Younis al - Mughair, which included a presentation by Eng. Enas Qandeel about "JSC-KRM experience in the Solid Waste Management Project", In addition to another presentation by Dr. Abdul Majeed Nassar, about "Electronic waste in the Gaza Strip", Finally, at the end of the session, Eng. Reem Abu Kamil gave a presentation on JICA's experience in medical waste management in the Gaza Strip.
At the end of this busy school day, The students of the college were able to link the theoretical concepts with the practical reality regarding to the topic of solid waste management in the Gaza Strip. Also, the audience made a recommendation to fulfill their need of other more detailed scientific meetings, In addition to the need to increase community awareness in order to contribute to the preservation of the environment and ensure the continued provision of collection and disposal services for solid waste.
