URGENT REHABILITATION OF AL-AMAL EMERGENCY DUMPSITE IN KHAN YOUNIS

As part of ongoing efforts to improve waste management in Gaza, the Joint Service Council for Solid Waste Management (JSC-KRM), in partnership with Khan Younis Municipality, has launched a project to rehabilitate the main emergency dumpsite in Al-Amal neighborhood, Khan Younis. This dumpsite handles over 500 tons of waste daily, serving more than 900,000 Gaza residents.
Generously funded by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the project aims to:
Reduce environmental and health risks.
Safeguard the well-being of residents and displaced persons (IDPs).
Curb the spread of diseases, especially as the winter season approaches.
Project Duration: 5 Months
Key Activities Include:
Expanding the emergency dumpsite's capacity and optimizing its design.
Streamlining daily waste management for safe and efficient operations.
Securing the site with fencing to protect workers and nearby communities.
Minimizing environmental risks and ensuring sustainability.
