The visit of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Council's facilities
On Thursday, June 09, 2022, at the Khan Yunis Waste Transfer Station “Medical Waste Treatment Unit”, the Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management in Khan Yunis, Rafah and Middle Area governorates welcomed a delegation from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Palestine headed by “Toshiya Abi” representative General of JICA office in Palestine.
The visitors were taken on a field tour to see how the medical waste treatment unit works, and the operation of the microwave sterilization device, which is used to treat infectious medical waste, also, the quantities of waste received and treated in addition to the operational costs of managing the unit were reviewed.
At the end of the visit, the staff of the Council, on behalf of the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Alaa El-Din Al-Battah, expressed sincere thanks to the Japanese International Cooperation Agency “JICA” and their General Representative, Mr. Toshiya Abe, for the support and assistance provided by the government and the Japanese people, to the councils And the municipalities in the Gaza Strip to improve the services provided to citizens, which recently included the supply of three specialized and advanced vehicles for the waste secondary collection as part of the Japanese government grant to improve the solid waste management sector in Palestine. This support comes as a continuation of JICA and the Japanese government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Government, to improve the solid waste management service in a better, safer, and more environmentally friendly manner.
